A Book of Disputations, 1791-1846.

Manuscript book of defenses of beliefs on various topics of controversy.The volume is attributed to Elizabeth Robbins Winslow, although other names appear in the volume. Entries reflect the young woman's religious and moral beliefs. Topics include the justice of slavery; infant baptism;the Copernicum system; the sins of the righteous; divorce; the merits of oratory; Joshua's covenent with the Gibbeonites; decrees versus free agentry; polygamy; gambling; whether noblemen can be guilty of perjury; whether it would impinge on civil liberties to have a bishop sent to America; when the Sabbath begins and ends; and whether the physical body will be raised on Judgement Day. A few pages were written in Latin. Genealogical information was written on the last page, including birth, marriage, and death dates for Mrs. Winslow, her husband, and her children. The subjects are referred to only by initials, but full names are provided on accompanying document.
